今月の Editorial Value of new shinkansen services Feb 21, 2015 from Japan Times
- The government needs to cleary explain how and whether their plan to move up the schedules will bring benefits that outweigh the addittional expenses to taxpayers.
- They will discuss moving up the plans for completing the Kanazawa-Fukui section of the Hokuriku Shinkansen so that the service can begin in time for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.
- The decision must be a welcome development for local governments along the extended shinkansen lines.
- But the opening of new shinkansen sections could also create prpblems for those local governments.
- Local train services tend not to become profitable. Local goverments may incur a heavy burden.
- This is an issue that should be considered nationaly along with the expansion the shinkansen services.
- I hope that Shinkansen network will be set up anywhere in Japan near future.
