E-News&Songs 9月例会報告（2024）

夏休み明けの９月の例会を9/12（木）に５名のメンバーで銀座オフィスで行いました。
当日は「パリ五輪、日本選手の活躍の要因・原因を考える」例会としました。
専門家を擁しないサークルとして「当てずっぽう」感があったかもしれませんが、大方が頷いた要因として以下のものが上がりました。
《大谷翔平効果》
わたしにもできると促し、力、勇気、自信と謙虚さを育んだこと。
《若者の意欲・やる気》
この国の凋落感が火をつけたのかもしれない。
《外国人コーチによる指導、医学・科学データに基づく手法》
又、副教材としてthe New York Timesから「What the Olympics Can Teach Us About Excellence」 を取り上げました。著者のBrad Stulberg氏はExcellenceは結果よりもむしろ過程にこそ意味があり、その過程がベストな人間を作るのである。これはスポーツ選手に限らず、すべての人についてもそうだと言っています。そういうことからすると競技者がライバルに対して示す敬意は自然なことであり、確かに今回のパリ五輪ではそういったシーンが多く見られました。
著者のキーワードは「groundedness」という聞きなれない言葉です。日本語に訳すと地に足がついていること、実直・愚直さということになるようです。多くのインタビューから著者はオリンピックメダリストはgroundednessを自分の考え方の根本としていることが明らかになったと述べています。
サークルメンバー一同は、著者の論旨に同意すると共に原文にある英語特有の表現に深く感じ入った次第です。
今月は当サークルの３か月に一度のSongsに当たっているので、例会は早々に終了して第二部のカラオケを楽しみました。
After the summer recess, we had a September session on Sep.12 at the Ginza Office and we elected to discuss the secrets behind the great achievements made by Japanese delegation to Paris Olympics.
In the meeting, we talked about factors behind the many amazing achievements, but our discussion may have ended in much of the guesswork, due to our insufficient expertise in many of the sprots in the Olympics event.
The following are the contributing factors to which all of us in the meeting commonly agreed.

Why not me? To rouse us to acquire strength, courage, confidence along with humility
《Willingness of youth》
Feeling of the nation’s decline in many aspects may have ignited the willingness of young people.
《Instructions by couches from overseas/Ｍedical・based on scientific data-oriented method》
In an addition, we picked up “What the Olympics Can Teach Us About Excellence” as a collateral text. Mr. Brad Stulberg, the author, argues that excellence is more meaningful in the process rather than in results. And this applied not only to the athletes, but also to the ordinary people. So, it is quite natural for athletes pay their respects to his competitors/rivals. To be sure, we have witnessed such scenes in Paris quite often.
“Groundedness”, which is unfamiliar to us, is a key-word of the author. We might translate it into “地に足がついていること、実直・愚直さということ”. The author says “No idea has resonated more with Olympic medalists than groundedness -that you can be a good person and reach great heights.
All our members agreed to the author’s argument and at the same time we came to the state of appreciation for the characteristic English-phrases in the original text.
♪９月Oldiesの開催

今回は、昨年８月に急逝されたメンバーの故佐藤一夫さんを偲ぶ事にしました。
彼は1940年代米国のケンタッキー州の民謡Bluegrassの魅力に惹かれ、長年練習を重ねて来られました。 外部のライブでも活躍されました。
彼を偲びながら、みんなで助け合いながら、次の５曲を歌い上げました。
